The Event

E Mālama I Ke Kai Ocean Awareness Festival, now in its tenth year, draws thousands of locals and visitors each year.  EMIKK began as a way for the keiki to share what they learned about the ocean and conservation with others.  Their presentations on what it means to be a people connected to the ocean have helped the keiki attain learning and organizational skills, self-confidence and a greater sense of community unity.  From the modest beginning of keiki presentations on ocean awareness, E Mālama I Ke Kai has grown to a major family event.  Last year’s event at Kapi‘olani Park hasted more than 7,000 guests and an unprecedented number of exhibitors.  We now feature keiki presentations, interactive exhibits by international, national and local ocean experts, booths on traditional Hawaiian knowledge such as fishing and navigation, a Hawaiian craft village, a silent auction, keiki games and rides, and a concert featuring many of Hawai‘i’s top entertainers.

E Malama I Ke Kai has also historically supported many vendors and cultural practitioners in giving them a large audience, customer base, and large scale exposure.  Our vendors come back every year, and experience more success with each year.  Our vendor list has also grown tremendously, and we are pleased to provide this very unique opportunity for them.
