E Malama I Ke Kai
|
E Mālama I Ke Kai was specifically created and designed to help perpetuate the Hawaiian values and language not only amongst the haumāna of Pūnana Leo o Kawaiaha‘o, but amongst our entire community including our visitors. In helping the community to understand our kuleana to protect and conserve both Hawai‘i’s cultural and natural resources, we know that E Mālama I Ke Kai directly contributes to Hawai‘i’s social, economic and physical well-being.
In order to fulfill its mission, EMIKK combines the following components:
- A free, fun event open to the entire community including our visitors
- Hands-on learning experiences that incorporate educational best practices for both keiki and mākua. These experiences are centered around the Hawaiian values of caring for the ocean, honoring the ways of our kūpuna, sharing aloha and perpetuating our ‘ōlelo makuahine
- Interactive volunteer opportunities for the community at large
- Economic prospects for Native Hawaiian crafters and vendors
- Use of the Hawaiian language throughout the event both in written and spoken forms
- Proactive outreach to the visitor industry especially within Waikīkī
- Keiki games and rides
- Extraordinary, quality Hawaiian entertainment
